- What do I need to calculate a birth chart?
- Three things: the birth date, the exact birth time, and the birthplace. The date and place set the planets' signs; the exact time sets the rising sign and the houses. An approximate time still works — the chart labels the time-sensitive parts as approximate.
- Why does the birth time matter so much?
- The sky turns about one degree every four minutes, so the rising sign changes roughly every two hours and the twelve houses sweep through the whole sky in a day. With an exact time, the rising sign and houses are precise; without one, the Sun, Moon and planet signs are still accurate, and Kinastry treats the rest with appropriate care.
